The President and Head of the Provisional Government of the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba (D.R.Y.), His Excellency Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore, has reaffirmed the commitment of the self-determination movement to building a prosperous and corruption-free Yoruba nation where artisans, traders, and business owners can thrive without oppression or unnecessary obstacles.
His Excellency Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore, who was sworn in on April 12, 2024, as the leader of the self-determination movement championed by the Indigenous Yoruba People (IYP), stated that the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba (D.R.Y.) will establish a governance system that protects the interests of hardworking citizens and promotes economic freedom across Yorubaland.
According to the President, the D.R.Y. administration will not tolerate exploitative practices within trade or artisan associations. He explained that, for many years, political interests have allegedly used some group leaders to exploit ordinary members through unnecessary levies, unaccounted dues, and oppressive practices that have contributed to hardship, poverty, hunger, and rising costs of living among the people.
President Omokore further announced that all skilled artisans operating within the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba will be properly registered under the D.R.Y. management system and provided with official certification and identification stamps. He added that artisans will also benefit from continuous training programs aimed at improving their craftsmanship, modern technical knowledge, and professional development.
Speaking on trading activities, His Excellency stated that modern market structures and business shops will be established across Yorubaland to provide organized and secure environments for traders. He emphasized that roadside and street trading will gradually be discouraged in order to create cleaner cities, safer roads, and a more structured commercial system. He also stressed that there will be no room for illegal ticketing, extortion, or unauthorized collection of money from traders and artisans.
In addition, President Mobolaji Olawale Akinola Omokore declared that genuine members of the Indigenous Yoruba People (IYP) will have access to business and work-support loans without interest payments. According to him, this initiative is designed to empower citizens economically, encourage entrepreneurship, and allow traders and artisans to grow their businesses peacefully while saving for the future.
The President concluded by expressing confidence in the future of the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba, calling on all sons and daughters of Yorubaland to prepare for a new era of unity, development, and self-governance.
